Origins of the Sign:
In ancient Egyptian religion the god Hapi watered the earth below him from two jugs. There is also a link with Ea the fish cloaked god mentioned in Capricorn. Ea was sometimes called the god with two streams.

Zodiac Character:
Aquarians can often appear to act out of sheer contrariness. Their nearest and dearest are usually the ones to suffer. This is because above all they value their independence and keep their thoughts and emotions private. They share their thoughts with no one and so their actions can appear unpredictable. Those born under the sign of the water carrier are optimistic and always willing to listen to the problems of others. They love to be helpful and will give advice in a logical and emotionally detached way.

The individualism of Aquarians also makes those born under this sign very independent. This independence can become an unwillingness to rely on others, making it difficult for an Aquarian to enter into a long lasting relationship. Often they will even shy away from starting a romance because they fear the intrusion of another person into their lives. Aquarians, however, do tend to be romantic and once committed to a love affair they are extremely loyal. They need to beware of refusing to share their lives and of becoming so set in their ways that a truly inclusive relationship becomes almost impossible. 

Food:
Eccentric individualists above all, Aquarians are willing to try any new type of food. Strange combinations and exotic ingredients do not worry them.  In fact the weirder the better. Geese and ducks are ruled by Aquarius and Aquarians are happy to eat complicated dishes involving these meats. Most nuts and anything with a shell are also Aquarian food. Aquarians are often to be found at the spearhead of any new food movement such as whole food, macrobiotic and even new methods of preservation.

The individuality of Aquarians comes out best in their home and furnishings. They love to be different and to stand out from the crowd. They will take great pains to make sure that their home reflects their individualism. They have an artistic knack of using accessories such as cloths and lampshades in new and interesting ways. They like to think correctly that they use furniture and soft furnishings in ways that would never occur to the other signs of the Zodiac.
