Inguz - Rune Number 22
Original meaning: Ing is the name of the horse god of fertility. He is also symbolised by the boar, the cuckoo, the apple and the laurel. This ancient god is associated with Denmark and so must have eventually been familiar to the British after being invaded by the Danes and unified under Canute. Inguz also has an association with fertility because of its link with Freya. She rode a golden boar with golden bristles said to symbolise the golden wheat of the harvest. By extension the Vikings believed that meditation on this Rune could bring about a much longed for pregnancy.
Interpretation: The start of a new season or project. Fertility. New ideas. Health and well-being. Energy and motivation to start something new. Making a clean sweep in all aspects of life so that a new project can be started.
Reversed: This Rune has no reversed position but if it is surrounded by negatives it can mean fear, laziness or indecision. It can also indicate others who do not want to see you succeed.
