Uruz - Rune Number 2
Original meaning: Uruz stands for the wild cattle of northern Europe which are now extinct. They were huge, powerful animals which could not be domesticated. Because the cattle were such powerful beasts hunting them was regarded as a great test of strength and resourcefulness. Thus Uruz has come to be seen as the Rune of achievement.
This Rune is also associated with Thor and is said to represent Urd. It has a link with the ancient gods called the Vanir. It thus stands for the primal creative force, a contained force that is struggling for liberty.
Interpretation: A beginning. The challenge of a new cycle of events and the uncertainty that it may bring. This Rune brings the strength to face change and can represent success, and good health. It can herald the best news for a career. Uruz stands for masculine strength. When this Rune is cast it represents fertility, the subconscious, independence and action.
Reversed: Fear of the unknown, harshness, lack of willpower and motivation. It can also represent the negative masculine aspects of abuse, violence and callousness. Lack of fertility and the lack of will to take advantage of opportunities are also suggested by the reversal of Uruz.
