The Ace of Swords in The Minor Arcana

The Ace of Swords shows a picture of a right hand grasping an upright sword. A small crown appears to be suspended near the point of the sword. A frond of leaves dangles from each side of the crown.

Most interpretations of the Ace of Swords favour the obvious phallic implications of the illustration.

According to Ronald Decker, an eminent playing card historian, the crown and the leaves are an heraldic device of the Visconti-Sforzas of Milan.

In a reading the Ace of Swords signifies great force. This strength can be used by the querent to discover the true nature of the problems in his or her life.

Encouraged and empowered by the Ace of Swords the querent can know that he or she is strong enough to fight for justice and to embrace honesty wherever it is necessary.

Summary: Grasp the nettle.
