The Eight of Cups in The Minor Arcana

The Eight of Cups shows a traveller. He wears a red cloak, red boots and he is leaning on a staff. The landscape looks barren and rocky and in the sky there is a full moon wrapped around by a crescent moon. Five cups stand in the foreground with three balanced on top of them. The man has turned his back on the cups and is leaving them.

When the Eight of Cups is revealed in a reading, the querent knows that it is time to move on. The card gives a very clear image of quitting and leaving behind feelings, a job of some sort or something which has been important. The cups themselves contain the emotions vested in what is being abandoned.

The questioner should understand that the card can indicate different types of moving on, not necessarily a physical move but sometimes a shift in feelings. Maybe a refusal to be hurt by an emotional blow for any longer.

Most people have something they really should turn their backs on once and for all - they just need to recognise what it is.

Summary: Time to go.
