On the Eight of Swords there is a picture of a woman who has been blindfolded and bound. There are eight swords stuck in the ground near the woman. On one side there are five swords and on the other three. In the distance there is a mountain with a turreted castle on it. The ground around the woman's feet looks wet and muddy.
When the Eight of Swords turns up in a reading it is telling the querent his or her freedom is compromised in some way. Maybe they are not aware of it but they should identify the area in their life which is closing in on them and act swiftly to free themselves.
Generally speaking it is easier to escape from a situation at the beginning before one becomes too involved. The querent should heed the warning and extricate him or herself.
