The Five of Swords in The Minor Arcana
The Five of Swords shows three men. One man stands in the foreground holding three swords. The other two swords lie abandoned on the ground. One man is walking away in the middle distance and the third man is disappearing into the far distance walking towards a stretch of water. There is a sense of desolation about this card. It is almost as if the men are clearing up after an unsuccessful battle.
When the Five of Swords turns up in a reading the querent should ask whether or not they are holding all the swords. Are they in control of all aspects of their life? Are they getting their own way in the important things? It could be that the questioner needs to take more control and put themselves first.
The querent should also be wary of winning a dishonourable victory over someone - there will be no satisfaction in gaining through lies and trickery.
Summary: Put all your cards on the table.
