The Four of Swords in The Minor Arcana

The Four of Swords depicts a person, dressed like a knight, lying on a stone tomb. The tomb is in a chapel or church and in the top left of the card is a stained glass window. Just above the figure on the tomb is an inset showing three swords. The fourth sword is carved along the side of the tomb. The figure looks like the sort of effigy seen carved on tombs in churches. His/her hands are held together as if in prayer.

When the Four of swords appears in a reading the querent should take it as a sign that they need to slow down and unwind. They need to embrace the sort of inner peace that can come from meditation and solitude.

This card tells the querent that this is not the time to shrug off the concerns of others when they say “Calm down. Take some time out” . They really do need to take heed and get some well earned rest.

Summary: Chill.
