The King of Swords in The Minor Arcana

The King of Swords sits solemnly on his throne. He holds an upright sword in his right hand and he wears flowing robes and a golden crown. Beneath the crown he wears a loose sort of balaclava. His stone throne is carved with butterflies and crescent moon shapes. Unlike his Queen his feet are firmly on the ground among the trees. Two birds fly above him.

It is likely that the King of Swords originally represented King David of Israel whose story is told in the Old Testament.

When the King of Swords appears in a reading this card asks the querent to think about justice. Is the querent being fair in a particular situation or are others being fair to him or her?

The King of Swords can also represent a person in the querent’s life who is powerful and in control of something that affects the querent.

Summary: Be even handed.
