A naked man and woman stand in a barren landscape. There is a mountain in the middle distance. Behind the woman is a fruit bearing tree with a snake twined around the trunk. Behind the man there is a tree in flower. Above the couple are the sun and clouds and a red winged angel figure dressed in heavy robes. The angel's hair is brightly coloured.
In older versions of the Tarot card number 6 shows a young man apparently choosing between an older woman and a young woman. Above the trio is Eros about to shoot one of his arrows.
The number 6 represents evolution (the six days of creation in The Bible).
The two people in the Rider Waite pack seem to resemble Adam and Eve and the angel above appears to be blessing their union.
This card in a reading:
Upright: The Lovers stand for all relationships; romantic, platonic, legal or business.
Reversed: Negative relationships that are harmful rather than helpful.
