The Three of Swords in The Minor Arcana

The Three of Swords depicts the traditional symbol of a heart pierced through by three swords. Behind the heart there are rain clouds and falling rain. This picture is very similar to a card in the 15th century Sola Busca deck. It has been suggested that this card is related to the Christian symbol of the "Seven Sorrows of Mary" which first became observed by the church in 1423.

The Three of Swords is a painful-looking card and it can signify hurt. It stands for spiteful nastiness, something mean the querent may have done or a hurt that has been or will be done to them.

The querent should examine his or her innermost feelings to make sure that they are not acting spitefully in any part of their life. They should also be on their guard against betrayal from someone they know.

Summary: Watch your back.
